For ECE Teachers: Children's Treaty 7 Land Acknowledgment

This week we will be continuing our discussion on equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization. We will explore the importance of land acknowledgments, how to create one, and how to go beyond in our work. The following clip demonstrates how land acknowledgments can be used with children effectively. We are also looking at how to create a culture of anti-bias where all people feel welcome and supported.

The Library Land Acknowledgement has changed. These videos will be updated in the near future to reflect the new wording. Join our Library friends Henri and Charlie to learn all about the significance of the local Treaty 7 land acknowledgment, which recognizes the history of the lands in southern Alberta, including Calgary. The rhyme we use to remember the land acknowledgment is easy for kids and adults to learn. Practice along with us! Curious about Indigenous Services at the Library? PANDA CUB HOUSE LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We humbly acknowledge that we are settlers here on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and traveling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, whose footsteps, culture, knowledge and history have marked these lands for centuries. This is the land that we inhabit, we are only here because of Treaty. We are all treaty people.

We are non-Indigenous people whom are grateful to live, work, learn and play here in Treaty 6 territory and acknowledge that we are a visitor on this land. In response to the TRC and in the spirit of genuine reconciliation, we are committed to understanding the effects of colonization, our role in it, and how we can be a better ally and apprentice, and to uplift the voices of Indigenous people.
